Keyboard Shortcuts

Keyboard shortcuts help you work faster without reaching for your mouse.

Enabling Shortcuts

Keyboard shortcuts are enabled by default. To check or modify:

  1. Go to Settings → Preferences
  2. Find Keyboard shortcuts
  3. Toggle on/off
  4. View all shortcuts with ?

Quick Reference

Press ? at any time to see all available shortcuts.

Navigation Shortcuts

Go To Shortcuts

All "Go to" shortcuts start with G:

Command Menu

From command menu, you can:

  • Navigate anywhere
  • Create tasks
  • Run any action
  • Access settings

Global Shortcuts

These work from anywhere (even other apps):

Global shortcuts require the desktop app.

Customizing Shortcuts

Change Shortcuts

  1. Go to Settings → Keyboard Shortcuts
  2. Find the action
  3. Click the current shortcut
  4. Press your new shortcut
  5. Save

Reset to Defaults

  1. Go to Settings → Keyboard Shortcuts
  2. Click Reset to defaults
  3. All shortcuts restored

Conflicts

If a shortcut conflicts with system shortcuts:

  • TodoTicked will warn you
  • Choose a different shortcut
  • Or disable the system shortcut

Tips for Learning Shortcuts

Start with a Few

Learn these first:

  1. Q - Quick add
  2. C - Complete
  3. G I - Go to Inbox
  4. / - Search
  5. ? - Show shortcuts

Use the Cheat Sheet

Press ? to see all shortcuts. Keep it open while learning.

Practice Daily

Pick one new shortcut each day:

  • Use it intentionally
  • After a week, it's automatic
  • Move to the next one

Muscle Memory

Shortcuts become faster with practice:

  • First week: Think about it
  • Second week: Getting faster
  • Third week: Automatic

Mac vs Windows

Web vs Desktop

Most shortcuts work the same. Exceptions:

  • Global shortcuts (desktop only)
  • Some browser shortcuts may conflict

Troubleshooting

Shortcuts Not Working

  1. Check shortcuts are enabled in Settings
  2. Ensure correct focus (click in app)
  3. Check for browser extension conflicts
  4. Try refreshing the page

Conflicts with Browser

Some browser shortcuts take priority:

  • Cmd/Ctrl + T - New tab
  • Cmd/Ctrl + W - Close tab
  • Cmd/Ctrl + N - New window
