Tasks Overview

Tasks are the foundation of TodoTicked. This guide covers everything you need to know about working with tasks.

What is a Task?

A task represents something you need to do. Each task can have:

  • Title - What needs to be done
  • Description - Additional details
  • Due date - When it's due
  • Priority - How important it is
  • Tags - For categorization
  • Project - Where it belongs
  • Subtasks - Smaller steps
  • Comments - Notes and updates
  • Attachments - Files and images

Task States

Tasks can be in different states:

Creating Tasks

Quick Add

The fastest method:

  • Press Q or click + Add Task
  • Type your task
  • Press Enter

Full Task Creation

For detailed tasks:

  1. Click + Add Task
  2. Enter the title
  3. Click the expand icon or press Tab
  4. Fill in details:
    • Due date
    • Priority
    • Tags
    • Description
  5. Click Add or press Enter

Natural Language

TodoTicked understands natural language:

"Buy milk tomorrow"
→ Creates task "Buy milk" due tomorrow

"Meeting with John Friday 3pm !1"
→ Creates high-priority task due Friday at 3pm

"Review code every Monday"
→ Creates recurring task

Managing Tasks

Editing Tasks

  • Click a task to open details
  • Double-click the title to quick edit
  • Press E with task selected

Completing Tasks

  • Click the checkbox
  • Press C with task selected
  • Swipe right on mobile

Completed tasks:

  • Move to the completed section
  • Can be uncompleted if needed
  • Are hidden by default (toggle to show)

Deleting Tasks

  • Right-click → Delete
  • Press Delete or Backspace
  • Swipe left on mobile

Deleted tasks:

  • Go to trash for 30 days
  • Can be restored from trash
  • Permanently deleted after 30 days

Task Details

Description

Add context to your tasks:

  1. Open the task
  2. Click the description area
  3. Write your notes
  4. Supports Markdown formatting

Use descriptions for:

  • Meeting agendas
  • Task requirements
  • Links and references
  • Step-by-step instructions

Attachments

Add files to tasks:

  1. Open the task
  2. Click the attachment icon
  3. Upload a file or drag and drop
  4. View attachments in the task panel

Supported files:

  • Images (PNG, JPG, GIF)
  • Documents (PDF, DOC, TXT)
  • Spreadsheets (XLS, CSV)
  • Up to 25MB per file

Activity Log

Every task tracks its history:

  • When created
  • Status changes
  • Edits made
  • Comments added
  • Who made changes (for shared tasks)

Bulk Actions

Select multiple tasks:

  • Shift + Click to select range
  • Cmd/Ctrl + Click to add to selection
  • Use checkbox to multi-select

Then apply actions:

  • Set due date
  • Change priority
  • Move to project
  • Add tags
  • Complete all
  • Delete all

Best Practices

Write Clear Titles

  • ✅ "Call dentist to schedule cleaning"
  • ❌ "Dentist"

Use Action Verbs

Start with what you'll do:

  • Call, Email, Write, Review, Buy, Send, Create, Finish

Break Down Large Tasks

If a task takes more than 2 hours:

  • Create subtasks
  • Or break into separate tasks

Review Regularly

  • Daily: Review today's tasks
  • Weekly: Plan upcoming week
  • Monthly: Review and clean up
