"Take vitamins every day"
"Weekly team meeting every Monday"
"Pay rent on the 1st of every month"
"Review goals every 3 months"

  1. Create a task
  2. Click the due date field
  3. Click Set recurring
  4. Choose your pattern
  5. Save

Recurring Patterns

Daily

Repeat every day or every X days:

  • every day - Daily
  • every 2 days - Every other day
  • every weekday - Monday through Friday
  • every weekend - Saturday and Sunday

Weekly

Repeat on specific days:

  • every Monday - Weekly on Monday
  • every Mon, Wed, Fri - Three times a week
  • every 2 weeks - Bi-weekly
  • every Sunday at 9am - Weekly with time

Monthly

Repeat monthly on specific dates or days:

  • every month on the 15th - Same date monthly
  • every month on the 1st - First of month
  • every month on the last day - End of month
  • every first Monday - First Monday of each month
  • every 2 months - Bi-monthly

Yearly

For annual events:

  • every year on Jan 1 - New Year's Day
  • every year on birthday - Annual reminder
  • every 6 months - Semi-annually

How Recurring Works

When you complete a recurring task:

  1. The current instance is marked complete
  2. A new instance is created for the next occurrence
  3. The cycle continues until you stop it

After Completion vs From Completion

After completion (default):

  • Next task appears after you complete current one
  • every day after completion
  • Good for flexible habits

From due date:

  • Next task based on original schedule
  • every Monday
  • Good for fixed schedules

Example:

  • "Exercise every 2 days after completion" - If you skip a day, the next one adjusts
  • "Exercise every Monday" - Always Monday, regardless of completion

Managing Recurring Tasks

Editing Recurring Tasks

When you edit a recurring task:

  • This task only - Change just this instance
  • This and future tasks - Change the pattern going forward
  • All tasks - Change the entire series

Stopping Recurrence

To stop a task from recurring:

  1. Open the task
  2. Click the recurrence indicator
  3. Select End recurrence
  4. Choose when to end:
    • Immediately
    • After X occurrences
    • On a specific date

Skipping Occurrences

Sometimes you need to skip one:

  1. Open the task
  2. Click Skip this time
  3. Next occurrence is scheduled

The skipped task won't appear in completed tasks.

Pro Tips

  • Morning routine tasks at exact times
  • Evening review at same time daily

Use Projects for Routines

Create a "Routines" project:

  • Group all recurring tasks
  • Easy to see your daily/weekly schedule
  • Quick access to adjust patterns

Don't Over-Schedule

Start with a few recurring tasks:

  • Add more as habits form
  • Too many becomes overwhelming

Review Periodically

Monthly, review your recurring tasks:

  • Are you completing them?
  • Is the frequency right?
  • Are they still relevant?
<Callout type="warning"> Be careful with "after completion" tasks. If you don't complete them, they won't recur! </Callout>

Complex Patterns

Multiple Times Per Day

"Take medication every day at 9am, 1pm, and 9pm"

Creates three separate recurring tasks.

Specific Week Days

"Gym every Monday, Wednesday, Friday at 6pm"

Business Days Only

"Daily standup every weekday at 9am"
