What is the Journal?

The Journal is your private space for:

  • Daily reflections
  • Mood tracking
  • Gratitude practice
  • Goal progress
  • Personal thoughts
  • Life events

Unlike Notes, Journal entries are:

  • Organized by date automatically
  • Private by default (can't be shared)
  • Optionally end-to-end encrypted
  • Designed for daily writing

Getting Started

Access the Journal

  1. Click Journal in the sidebar
  2. Or press G then J
  3. Your journal opens to today's entry

Create Your First Entry

  1. Click on today's date
  2. Start writing
  3. Your entry auto-saves

Writing Journal Entries

Daily Entry

Each day has one entry that you can add to throughout the day:

  1. Open the Journal
  2. Today's entry is selected
  3. Write your thoughts
  4. Add more anytime during the day

Entry Prompts

Stuck? Use writing prompts:

  • What am I grateful for today?
  • What did I accomplish?
  • What challenged me?
  • What did I learn?
  • How do I feel right now?

Enable prompts in Settings → Journal.

Rich Formatting

Journal supports:

  • Bold and italic text
  • Headers and lists
  • Images and photos
  • Links
  • Code snippets
  • Blockquotes

Mood Tracking

Log Your Mood

Track how you feel:

  1. Open today's entry
  2. Click the mood icon
  3. Select your mood:
    • 😊 Great
    • 🙂 Good
    • 😐 Okay
    • 😕 Not great
    • 😢 Rough

Mood Insights

Over time, see patterns:

  1. Go to Journal → Insights
  2. View mood trends
  3. Identify patterns
  4. Correlate with activities

Daily Gratitude

Gratitude Section

Add gratitude to entries:

  1. Open your journal entry
  2. Click Add gratitude
  3. List 3 things you're grateful for
  4. Builds a habit of positivity

Gratitude Archives

Review past gratitude:

  • Browse by date
  • Search entries
  • See your growth

Journal Privacy

Private by Default

Journal entries are:

  • Only visible to you
  • Not shared with teams
  • Not included in exports (unless requested)

End-to-End Encryption

For maximum privacy:

  1. Go to Settings → Security
  2. Enable Journal Encryption
  3. Set your passphrase
  4. All entries are encrypted
<Callout type="warning"> Encrypted journal entries cannot be recovered if you forget your passphrase. Write it down somewhere safe! </Callout>

Biometric Unlock

For convenience with encryption:

  1. Enable encryption
  2. Go to Settings → Security
  3. Enable Quick Unlock
  4. Use Face ID / Touch ID / Windows Hello

Reviewing Your Journal

Calendar View

Navigate by date:

  1. Click the calendar icon
  2. Browse months and years
  3. Dots indicate entries
  4. Click to read

Search

Find past entries:

  1. Click search in Journal
  2. Enter keywords
  3. Results show matching entries
  4. Click to open

Streaks

Build a journaling habit:

  • See your current streak
  • View longest streak
  • Get streak milestones

  1. Enable in Settings → Journal

Export Your Journal

Export All Entries

Create a backup:

  1. Go to Settings → Export
  2. Select Journal
  3. Choose format (PDF, Markdown)
  4. Download your journal

Export Date Range

Export specific periods:

  1. Go to Journal → Export
  2. Select start and end dates
  3. Choose format
  4. Download
