Import Tips

Before Importing

  1. Clean up first - Delete or archive old tasks you don't need
  2. Organize projects - Structure them how you want before export
  3. Backup your data - Keep a copy of your export file

During Import

  • Start small - Import one project first to test
  • Review the preview - Check that fields mapped correctly
  • Watch for duplicates - Don't import the same data twice

After Importing

  1. Review your tasks - Make sure everything came through
  2. Update due dates - Some dates may need adjustment
  3. Set up tags - Organize with TodoTicked's tag system
  4. Configure notifications - Set up reminders

Handling Large Imports

For imports with 1000+ tasks:

  • Import happens in the background
  • You'll receive an email when complete
  • May take several minutes
  • Don't close the browser

Manual Data Entry

Sometimes manual is better:

Consider manual entry when:

  • You have fewer than 50 tasks
  • You want to reorganize everything
  • Your old system's export is messy

Quick manual transfer:

  1. Open both apps side by side
  2. Copy task titles
  3. Use quick add (Q) to recreate
  4. Add details as needed

Troubleshooting Imports

"File format not supported"

  • Check you're using the correct export format
  • Try a different export option from your old app
  • Convert to CSV if needed

"Some tasks failed to import"

  • Check for special characters in task names
  • Look for extremely long descriptions
  • Review the error log for specific issues

"Dates look wrong"

  • Ensure dates are in a standard format (YYYY-MM-DD)
  • Check timezone settings
  • Manually fix any incorrect dates

"Missing tasks"

  • Some apps don't export archived/completed tasks
  • Check if tasks were filtered during export
  • Verify the export includes all data
